Honoured
“He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.” – Psalm 91:15
I am extremely sensitive to dishonour and more so when it is directed at someone else. I get really perturbed when someone dishonours another in my presence or hearing.
Of course some people tend to find joy in disrespecting, demeaning, or disgracing others by actions or words that undermine their reputation, dignity, or worth.
We all see it all the time in personal relationships, social interactions, professional settings, and with serious consequences for the victim’s emotional well-being, self-esteem, and relationships with others.
However, our meditation today shows us God’s character as the God who honours people – “I will deliver him and honour him,” it says.
In the Hebrew language, the word used for ‘honour’ means to ‘prefer’ and is related to dignity or respect and the esteemed position of an individual in the sphere in which he exists.
Wherever the term is used in the Bible, there is a suggestion of nobility – basically used describe the social distinction and position of respect enjoyed by nobility.
In the New Testament, the Greek word used for ‘honour’ denotes a high price attached to something.
It has a connection to being made precious or valuable. A person is ‘honourable’ if he is of high repute or standing in society.
This truth is worth reiterating over and over again: our God is the God of honour and if you set your heart on calling upon His Name in truth, He will honour you.
In general, being honored by God means being favored or recognized or preferred or being put ahead of the rest with special abilities, talents, or opportunities to serve others or to fulfill a divine purpose.
In reference to our reference verse, God is absolutely amazing. When He finds someone who is in trouble, He envelops him in His presence, delivers him and then honours him!
More often than not, people’s reaction to the weak is dishonour; however, Christ’s response to desperate and distressed people who call upon Him is honouring them.
He takes desperate people and makes them precious, valuable and preferred.
He puts them in a place of social distinction where they can partake of the respect akin to that enjoyed by the nobility. Hallelujah!
This truth is worth reiterating over and over again: our God is the God of honour and if you set your heart on calling upon His Name in truth, He will honour you.
Our God is the God of honour who takes desperate people and makes them precious, valuable and preferred in the spheres where they exist.
