Manifestation
“So, the child grew and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel.” – Luke 1:80, NKJV
In the glow of the Christmas season, our eyes are naturally drawn to the carols and the celebration dedicated to the birth of Lord and Savior.
Yet, nestled within the Gospel of Luke is a quieter story of preparation, one that speaks to the “hidden years” of our lives.
Before the Jordan River stirred with the waters of repentance, and before the heavens opened over Jesus, there was a child in the wilderness.
Luke 1:80 captures this profound mystery: “So the child grew and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel.”
The message is unmistakable; John the Baptist, the herald of the Lamb of God, did not arrive on the scene fully formed. He grew!
This simple phrase: the child grew, reminds us that God honors the process.
Like Samuel and Jesus after him, John’s development was not only physical, but also intellectual, and spiritual – taking decades to complete.
If you feel like you are in a season of slow progress, now you know that you’re not alone.
Growth is often silent and slow.
In the kingdom of God, the visible height of the oak is determined by the invisible depth of the roots.
Your current “insignificance” is not a sign of God’s absence, but of His meticulous process of cultivation – root deepening – in short.
The verse adds that John became “strong in spirit.”
This was much more than mere human resolve; it was a divine tempering.
Just as Elijah found God’s voice in the whisper of a lonely cave, John found his mettle in the solitude of the arid desert.
The deserts (mark the plural) were his sanctuary, the places where the noise of the world was traded for the poise of the Spirit.
Perhaps you find yourself in a “desert” today – in a season of isolation, a dry spell in your career or ministry – a period of waiting that feels like a distant exile.
Know this: The ‘desert’ is not a place of punishment; it is workshop of adornment!
Your manifestation is coming, and nothing can block it; it’s unstoppable.
It’s where the superficial – the dross – is stripped away so that the shine of the eternal can be forged and revealed.
In the dryness, God is building a spiritual muscle in you that will discomfit kings, rulers and dominions.
And the most encouraging word in this whole passage is often the most overlooked: “till.”
John was in the desert till the day of his manifestation.
Years passed, and the prophecies about his destiny were almost forgotten, but there was a deadline to his hiddenness.
There is an appointed time – a Kairos moment – for your manifestation!
When God says “Now,” doors will swing wide, opportunities will flood in, and your purpose will shine brighter than the sunshine.
The ‘desert’ is a gold refinery; it’s not a permanent residence.
Just as the Christmas season leads us through the darkness of expectation to the light of salvation, there is a ‘till’ to our wilderness experience.
Till His own appointed time, God will unleash you to guide your generation on the right path.
As we celebrate the birth of Christ, let us also celebrate the work He’s doing in the quiet places of our lonely years.
You’re not forgotten in the wasteland; you are being fortified for purpose.
Trust the Master Potter’s process!
Lean into the silence.
Let the Spirit strengthen you in the lonely shadows so that you may have the mettle to stand firm in the public battles.
Your manifestation is coming, and nothing can block it; it’s virtually unstoppable.
The ‘wilderness’ is simply part of the process; the prelude to the promise.
Keep pressing on; your ‘desert’ days are counting down to destiny.
