Fresh
“I have been anointed with fresh oil.” – Psalm 92:10
Years ago, I was getting set to drive my first long journey upcountry.
So, I took the car to Meddy, my mechanic, to check if everything was okay. He pulled out the dipstick to check the oil.
Then he gave me the piece of advice that I will never forget: “Never embark on driving a long journey on old oil,” he said.
In our meditation today, King David testifies that the LORD had anointed him with “fresh oil.”
In Bible times, olive oil was used to anoint priests, prophets, and kings as a sign of their consecration and empowerment or inspiration by God for their divine roles.
The notion of “fresh oil” thus signifies a renewing, a re-consecration of sorts, to reign in new realms and territories.
Indeed, from the biblical narrative, King David was anointed three times, each of ‘the three anointings’ coming with a new reassignment for a new role in a new domain.
David’s very first anointing took place when he was a young shepherd boy in Bethlehem.
Prophet Samuel, acting under God’s instruction, anointed the young man with oil in the presence of his father Jesse and his brothers.
Whatever new realm, assignment, journey or role you might be taking on, God is anointing you with ‘fresh oil.’
Though David had to wait for another 15 years before he assumed the throne, this anointing marked him as God’s chosen future king of Israel and effectively took him from looking after sheep in the bushes to the palace as one of the king’s fighters (see 1 Samuel 16:1-13).
His second anointing came immediately after the death of King Saul.
This anointing occurred in Hebron, setting David on the throne to reign over Judah for seven and a half years (see 2 Samuel 2:1-4).
His third anointing came to consecrate him to be king over both Judah and Israel, thus uniting the 12 tribes into one kingdom.
This anointing took place in Hebron as well, after the leaders of all the 12 tribes came to him and acknowledged him as their king (see 2 Samuel 5:1-5).
These three anointings mark significant episodes in David’s journey from being a shepherd boy to becoming the greatest king in the history of Israel.
Each ‘fresh’ anointing signified God’s inspiration of David to lead His people.
After 15 years of waiting, David would not continue operating merely under the ‘Bethlehemite anointing.’
And after reigning over half the kingdom for seven years, he would not rule over the entire kingdom merely under the ‘half-kingdom anointing.’
Now, under which anointing are you operating right now – the fresh or the previous one?
Are you one of the many Christians who find themselves in a new domain and yet expect to continue operating in the ‘old anointing’?
From His parable of the Ten Virgins, our Lord Jesus warned us against not having reserve oil for our lamps!
God knows that for you to successfully reign in new realms and territories, you must be anointed with ‘fresh oil’ because He won’t put His ‘new wine’ in ‘old wineskins.’
For example, the critical lesson I’ve learned through experience is that to succeed as a married person, we need ‘fresh oil.’
The anointing that made you successful as a single Christian won’t suffice when you get into the marriage domain!
To enable us succeed in a new role as parents, God anoints us with that ‘fresh oil.’
To succeed at a new job in a new organization, we need ‘fresh oil.’
To win in business after years of employment, we need ‘fresh oil.’
To succeed in the apostolic or prophetic realm after years of ministry as a pastor or teacher, there’s need for ‘fresh oil.’
Whatever new realm, season, journey or role you might be taking on, God is anointing you with ‘fresh oil’ for that specific assignment.
Oh yes, just receive it right now in the Name of Jesus. Amen!

Dear God anoint me with new oil,I need to new oil for this phase of life am in in Jesus name amen
