“Because he set his love on Me, therefore I will save him; I will set him [securely] on high, because he knows My Name [he confidently trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never abandon him, no, never].” – Psalm 91:14, AMP

Over the years, I have encountered setbacks – reversals, obstacles, or delays – that caused my goals, plans and expectations to be disrupted or thwarted.

As a matter of fact, I don’t know of anyone who has not faced setbacks in the form of unexpected challenges, failures, mistakes, or external circumstances in the various aspects of their life including personal, professional, and academic pursuits.

In our meditation today, God makes a promise to the one who has set his love upon Him but is facing setbacks – “I will set him [securely] on high”!

Being ‘set on high’ refers to God exalting or elevating you to a position of honor, authority, or blessing – an indication of divine favor and reward for your unbreakable loyalty to Him.

The idea here is that for every setback, there is a setup!

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”

GENESIS 50:20

Many times, the devil brings setbacks in our lives completely oblivious of the fact that it’s a divine setup. For example, Joseph’s suffering in Egypt was a divine setup!

In Genesis 50:20, Joseph told his brothers who had sold him into slavery; “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”

That’s what the Bible means when it says; “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).

So, if you feel like you might never recover from a certain setback, be sure of one thing – it a divine setup that Christ intends to use in order to achieve a particular outcome, for His own glory. 

God is taking actions to set you up above your circumstances, preparing you for a divine task.

So, whatever setback you’re dealing with right now, one thing that is for sure is that it’s a setup that God is going to uplift you to experience His amazing providence and blessing.

His promise of divine intervention and care for those who have faith in Him has been proven over and over throughout history.
