Heaven

“…Our Father, who is in heaven….” – Matthew 6:9

On two occasions, I have had the rare opportunity to visit State House, the headquarters of H.E, the President of Uganda.

The sheer awe of the place strikes you long before you even walk through the first gate.

From the mere invitation to go there, the State House is unmistakable as the President’s place of abode.

I was once talking to a certain high-ranking gentleman when his phone rang.

It was a call from the State House.

The gentleman literally froze!

In the Bible, ‘heaven’ is portrayed as the dwelling place or the ‘headquarters’ of the Almighty God.

The Greek term for ‘heaven,’ may signify not just the spiritual realm of God’s presence but also a specific place.

‘Heaven,’ as God’s abode, signifies the ‘headquarters’ of the supreme authority and sovereignty in charge of all the universe.

Indeed, the Bible portrays it as the divine ‘throne room’ of Jehovah God.

Psalm 103:19 says; “The Lord has established His throne in the heavens, and His kingdom rules over all.

‘Father in heaven’ is symbolic of His transcendence; He’s distinct from and beyond His creation, not limited by the physical universe or our human understanding.

Heaven as portrayed by the Bible, is a realm of divine purity, holiness, order and perfection – distinct from the confused earthly/physical realm, which is marked by imperfection and sin.

Isaiah 6:1-3 depicts the God who is enthroned in a majestic, holy heaven, surrounded by seraphim that are endlessly proclaiming His glory.

From heaven, my Father watches and rules over the universe!

Indeed, everything that happens in the physical world and my life is dictated by His heavenly realm.

In heaven, God’s will is perfectly fulfilled.

This is why Jesus taught His disciples to pray, “Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

For the believer in Christ, heaven represents the ultimate fulfillment of God’s plan for creation, where divine justice, peace, and love are to be fully realized.

Indeed, Jesus made reference to heaven as the ultimate destination for those who believe in Him, where they would experience eternal communion with the loving Father.

In John 14:2-3, Jesus speaks of preparing a place for His disciples in His Father’s house, which has ‘many mansions.’

This promise offers hope of eternal life, totally free from ur earthly suffering and persecution.

So, for us the believers in Christ, heaven is our promised eternal home!

Being in God’s presence in heaven perpetually is nothing but the “fullness of joy” and “pleasures forevermore”! (Psalm 16:11).

Revelation 21:1-4 describes “a new heaven and a new earth” where God would dwell with humanity, signifying the ultimate reconciliation of creation with its Creator.

What that means is that at the end of time, God would dwell with humanity directly as the spiritual and physical realms are eventually united forever and ever.

Indeed, the new heaven and new earth would be the ultimate fulfillment of man’s desire for endless reconnection with his Creator!

So, the key question here is; are you destined for heaven?
