Angels
“Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.” – Matthew 4:11
This is one of two occasions in the Bible where angels directly ministered to Christ.
The second was in Luke 22:43 as He sweated blood while praying in the Mount of Olives.
The Bible says; “And there appeared an angel to Him from heaven, strengthening Him.”
It’s interesting that in tempting Him, the devil had quoted a psalm saying; God would give His angels charge over You to keep You in all Your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up lest you dash your foot against a stone.”
Now, even after refusing to put God to the test, angels still came and ministered to Him – serving Him food after the long fast.
The Bible says angels are ministering spirits, sent to minister for them who will inherit salvation.
While their presence may not be visible to the physical eye, angels are always actively involved in the lives of God’s children.
In the Bible, Paul experienced an angelic visitation during a perilous storm at sea. The angel brought him comfort (Acts 27:23–24). The word ‘angel’ (Greek: angelo) literally means ‘messenger.’
In the Bible, angels did appear to several people to deliver divine messages.
Angels continuously watch over and defend you from harm, evil, and spiritual attacks.
Apart from delivering help from God, angels also minister for us by waging spiritual battle, fighting the forces of spiritual darkness who try to sabotage God’s plans.
God may use angels any way He chooses.
But because as physical beings, we don’t know much about what happens in the world outside our physical universe, we cannot possibly understand all the roles and purposes angels fulfill on our behalf.
Recently, I told friends that as we sleep, drive, walk or go about our business, ‘guardian angels’ are in charge.
These spiritual beings assigned by God to guide, watch over and protect individuals from the day they are born till they reach heaven.
Jesus said in Matthew 18:10: “Take heed that you despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, that in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.”
Angels continuously watch over and defend you from harm, evil, and spiritual attacks.
But as was the case with our Lord, we have the confidence that God’s holy angels are always on standby, instructed to serve, protect and deliver God’s mortal children from all dangers. Amen
