Fulfilled
“When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night, and departed into Egypt: And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, ‘Out of Egypt have I called my Son.’” – Matthew 2:14-15
The Greek word for ‘fulfill’ is pleroo, and it’s from this word that we derive our English words ‘pleromic’ (of or related to being complete) and ‘plerosis’ (the state of being complete or attaining completeness – where all potentialities have been actualized).
On numerous occasions, the Gospels, particularly Matthew, repeat the word pleroo to emphasize the fact that whatever happened to Christ was the eventual fulfillment of prophecies that were made thousands of years earlier.
Our meditation today indicates that everything that happened to Christ was the eventual fulfillment of prophecy.
In Luke 24:44, Jesus said; “…that everything written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”
In Matthew 5:17, He said; “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”
At the end of His mission on earth, Jesus knew that all things that had been written or said about Him in the Old Testament had been fulfilled (John 19:28).
In the life of Christ, we can see God’s determination to fulfill every one of His promises, which are always sure and steadfast.
When we trust in His Word, we eventually find out that His faithfulness is to all generations.
“Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord”
Psalm 145:13 says; “For Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. You rule throughout all generations. The Lord always keeps His promises; He is gracious in all He does.”
I love what Jeremiah 1:12 says: “The Lord said to me, ‘You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that My Word is fulfilled.’”
As a young man, I memorized Isaiah 55:11. The Amplified version reads; “So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me void (useless, without result), Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.”
I don’t know what God has promised you in this New Year.
But even if it looks impossible from a human perspective, just believe and trust Him to accomplish it.
It shall be accomplished by His power if you believe.
Just like Elisabeth told Mary, “Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord” (Luke 1:45).
There shall be ‘plerosis’ in your life this year, says the Father!
Happy New Year and lots of love in the Name of the Lord!
