“He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him:” – Psalm 91:15
Several things normally happen when someone is in trouble and needs some help.
First, some people will completely avoid that person at best and blame her for her troubles at worst.
Some could even go ahead and block her number or refuse to pick her calls when she calls.
Others might pick her calls, sympathise with her but give very plausible reasons why they cannot be of any help at that moment. “I wish you had called me earlier,” they could say.
A few others could show genuine sympathy, promise to get back to her with some form of assistance but then ‘forget.’
However, a few people would genuinely feel touched, and either immediately take action by sending any help they can find or drop everything else and go over to check on her situation.
Our Lord Jesus is in this last category; He is never too busy or unable to respond when we call upon Him.
In our meditation today, He promises that the one who has set his love upon Him would call and He would answer.
In the original languages, the word used for ‘answer’ means to ‘respond with action.’
That is the same idea expressed in Psalm 102:2, which says; “Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline thine ear unto me; … when I call answer me speedily.”
Similarly, Psalm 46:1 says “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
Somewhere else it says; “For whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.”
It implies that God is accessible and responsive to their needs, prayers, and petitions of His people. He is never indifferent or too busy or unable to act when we call upon Him.
Whatever it is that you’re going through, call upon Him and you will be answered.
Unlike some people who will simply hide when you raise an alarm while calling for help, God is attentive to the concerns and desires of His loved ones and will respond whenever we call upon Him.
Whatever happens, we can communicate with Him directly and expect a response.
This should inspire faith and confidence in our hearts, having the assurance that even when times of uncertainty or difficulty strike, God will be on hand to answer when we call upon His Name.
There are numerous examples in the Bible whereby God responded when His people called upon Him when they were in serious trouble.
Even today, we can rest assured that no genuine call to God will go unanswered!
Whatever it is that you’re going through, call upon Him and you will be answered.
