Touched

“[King] Saul also went to his home in Gibeah, accompanied by valiant men whose hearts God had touched.” – 1 Samuel 10:26, NIV

Don’t you really admire King Saul’s followers – “valiant men whose hearts God had touched”? Every leader definitely needs such men in significant numbers!

The divine touch is what makes the difference between ordinary men and extraordinary men.

When the “hand of God came upon Elijah,” the old man outrun the king’s chariot!

Later, Elijah was lonely, scared, depressed and hungry.

“Suddenly an angel touched him, and said to him, “Arise and eat.”

With the strength from that divine encounter, Elijah walked hundreds of miles to Sinai, the mountain of God.

Isaiah, too, did not remain the same after the ‘divine touch.’

When the seraphim took a hot coal from the altar of God and touched his mouth with it, his iniquity was taken away and his sin was purged. (Isaiah 6:6-7).

The ‘divine touch’ will purify our spirits from all trespasses and sin!

Jeremiah also had an experience with the ‘divine touch.’ “The LORD put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and said to me: “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth” (Jer.1:9).

Similarly when the “One having the likeness of the sons of men” [Jesus] touched Daniel’s lips, he was able to speak the words of God though he was not a prophet.

The ‘divine touch’ is what gives ordinary people the ability to prophesy.

Earlier, Daniel had his face on the ground when the angel Gabriel touched him. Immediately, he could stand upright.

The divine touch will lift you up from the dust and make you to sit with kings.

Once again, “the One having the likeness of a man” [Jesus] touched Daniel and strengthened him.

The ‘divine touch’ affirms and calms the soul.

When the seraphim took a hot coal from the altar of God and touched his mouth with it,

his iniquity was taken away and his sin was purged (Isaiah 6:6-7).

The ‘divine touch’ will purify our hearts from all trespasses and sin

Our Lord Jesus used the ‘divine touch’ to great effect.

Matthew 8:3 says He put forth His hand and touched a man with leprosy. He was immediately cleansed.

Normally, touching a leper would result in ceremonial defilement but this was not an ordinary touch; it was a divine touch that makes lepers clean.

He touched blind eyes and they opened. He put His fingers in deaf ears and healed dumb tongues with a mere touch.

When people begged him to touch a blind man, He responded and made the blind man see.

When they brought little children to Him so He might touch them, “He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them.”

What our children need urgently is the Master’s divine touch. There is no substitute for it!

Everything responds to the Creator’s divine touch.

When He touched a boy’s coffin, the only son of the widow of Nain came back to life. Ordinarily, He was not supposed to touch a coffin as it would render Him ceremonially clean.

But this no ordinary touch; it was a life-giving ‘divine touch.’

When He laid His hand on the woman whose back was bent, immediately she was made straight.

Only the ‘divine touch’ can make the queer ‘straight’!

Revelation 1:17 says that Jesus put “His right hand” on the apostle John, affirming him and urging him not to be afraid.

The right hand that He lays upon you is the same Hand that created the universe; that separated the Red Sea; that holds the universe together!

That’s why our lives cannot remain the same when we experience His divine touch.

Prayer:

Almighty God, may my heart be valiant; may it be a heart that Your Hand has touched. May this day be an opportunity to experience Your ‘divine touch.’ For the glory of Your name, Amen!
