Unchangeable
“For I am the LORD, I do not change [but remain faithful to My covenant with you]; that is why you, O sons of Jacob, have not come to an end.” – Malachi 3:6, AMP
“But you have changed; you never used to be like that”!
That is a common accusation in relationships. Somehow, we all wish (and hope) that people would not change forever.
Unfortunately, change is an ever-present reality in life.
People who used to be pretty, smooth, slim or muscular gradually start becoming fat, chubby, clumsy and bald.
I mean, someone who used to adore you starts treating you like a toy.
People who used to be humble, caring and tender start showing arrogance and antagonistic attitudes or tendencies.
Someone who used to say that they could not live without you now start telling you that they would be happier without you in their lives!
When friends, partners, employers or spouses change, they break covenants and abandon sworn commitments.
“Why do people change?” I typed that question into Google and the first answer that came was a quote from an article under the same title.
“The primary reason for change in people is because of internal driving factors. These can include mental health issues, personal values, or changes in beliefs or goals. Internal factors can also result as a response to external stimuli or experience, or simply due to our own personal development.”
I guess every one of us can relate to that statement, either as victims or villains.
In our meditation today, we reflect on the truth that God is the only One who does not change!
He argues that the only explanation for the nation’s survival was His immutability.
Indeed, all Bible scholars are in agreement that Malachi prophesied towards the end of the Babylonian exile of Israel.
Over the centuries, the nation had rebelled so much against God that everyone thought that the LORD would be justified if the entire nation were to be destroyed without a trace.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.”
HEBREWS 13:8
However, God is not like people who are prone to change!
“I am the LORD, I do not change and that is why you, O sons of Jacob, have not been annihilated,” He declared.
We serve a God who never changes. Hebrews 13:8 says; “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.”
He remains true to His covenant, eternally! As everyone and everything else shifts and changes, we can depend on Christ who remains true to His Covenant, no matter what happens!
Can you even imagine what life would be like if everyone remained true, honest, loyal, dependable, faithful and trustworthy for life, like God is?
Our God is unchangeable, which is the only reason we can face tomorrow.
We can trust that He remains true to all His promises and so there is there is absolutely no need for fear or anxiety, whatever comes our way.
Because He never changes, all His promises are ‘Yes’ and ‘Amen’ (2 Cor. 1:20). Because He’s unchangeable, I shall be unshakable! Hallelujah!
