Delivered

He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the son of His love.” – Colossians 1:13

For over a year, a certain sister was pestering me to go for ‘deliverance’ at a certain church.

I kept telling her that I actually didn’t need any deliverance, that on the contrary, I was the once whose mandate was to lead people to the only one who delivers – Christ Jesus

Then after getting rather exasperated, I asked her to assure me whether the prayers for ‘deliverance’ had worked for her personally.

Of course the evidence was clearly to the contrary.  That was the last time she talked to me about the subject.

In the contemporary church especially in poor countries like Uganda, ‘deliverance’ has become a massive industry from which some incorrigible preachers are minting loads of cash from desperate and rather ignorant believers.

In our meditation today, the apostle assures the Church in Colossae that Christ had delivered them from the kingdom of darkness. Mark the tense – it says “has delivered us” – denoting a finished job.

Galatians 1:4 stresses this point even further: “Who gave Himself for our sins that He might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father.”

In other words, the work of our total deliverance was accomplished by Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross.

We are of the kingdom of God and He that is on the inside of us is by far greater than the devil which is in the world.

The moment Christ enters the human heart, the person immediately experiences total deliverance.

In the original language, ‘deliver’ in this context denotes ‘taking out for oneself’ or ‘rescuing.’

In the KJV, the Greek for the word ‘translate’ means to ‘to transfer to another place.’

When Christ became the Lord of your life, you experienced total deliverance because He redeemed you and “transferred” you from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of Christ where the devil cannot do you any harm.

You now operate in another domain where the powers of darkness have absolutely no control.

It’s like how Uganda’s Police chief is completely powerless to arrest anyone in the US; why, because it is a different domain where he cannot exercise authority.

So the question now arises; can a Spirit-filled Christian be in bondage and thus be in need of deliverance?

Can a Christian be bewitched? Well, there is no record that I know of in the Bible where a believer had to undergo ‘deliverance’ or any insinuation to that effect in the New Testament.

I am certain that it’s just the enemy playing on people’s minds. We are of the kingdom of God and He that is on the inside of us is by far greater than the devil which is in the world (1 John 4:4).

So dear brethren, quit stressing yourself about the kingdom of darkness overpowering you and putting you under a ‘generational curse’; we were delivered from all that 2,000 years ago! Hallelujah!

Prayer:

Almighty God, thank you for the domain of your dear Son in which I operate. Through the weapons of my warfare, which are mighty through God, help me to open the eyes of Your people so they can appropriate the benefits of Your finished work on the Cross. For the glory of Your Name, Amen!
