Trustworthy

“….the LORD is trustworthy in all He promises and faithful in all He does.” – Psalm 145:13 (NIV)

Sometime back, I was painfully conned (again!) of some hard-earned money by some guy who somehow succeeded in convincing me that he was legit.

I believe many of you have your own stories of being duped by fraudsters or hackers.

In these evil days, it is not easy; indeed sometimes we’re warned never to trust mwanadamu (a human being) because it could be dangerous.

But sometimes we’re caught with our guard down.

Through experience, we have come to appreciate, like King Solomon did, that whereas “many men can declare how good they are, a trustworthy person who can find?” (Proverbs 20:6).

Indeed, our world today faces a crisis of trust. There is a serious dearth of trustworthy leaders and partners.

You just can’t be sure who to trust or not, whether in person or online.

Not even your spouse, pastor, banker or lawyercan be fully trusted anymore!

Many people are moving around with wounded hearts, shattered hopes, and betrayed trust because of untrustworthy leaders, spouses or friends. God help us.

The adjective ‘trustworthy’ refers to someone or something that is worthy of trust.

The trustworthy person can be relied upon as honest, sincere or truthful.

The Hebrew term denotes the element of something or someone being ‘firm’ or ‘certain’ in the sense that he/she can be held or leaned onto it without fear.

The New International Version of the Bible sometimes translates ‘faithful’ as ‘trustworthy.’

But in our meditation today, both words appear in the same verse.

God has shown that He’s faithful basing on what He has done.

But He’s trustworthy in regard to what He will do.

Because He is a faithful God, He is trustworthy.

What He has promised can be depended on; it can be relied on; you can lean onto His promises.

He is worthy of our confidence; yes He is.

God can be entrusted with our hopes because His promises are completely trustworthy.  All of God’s promises are true and trustworthy. They are ‘Yes’ and ‘Amen.’ Hallelujah!

Referring to His Father, our Lord Jesus said; “But He who sent me is trustworthy, and what I have heard from Him I tell the world.” (John 8:26, NIV)

The Greek term for ‘trustworthy’ also denotes ‘rest,’ which describes something or someone for which you can ‘rest assured’; you can literally set your mind at rest when dealing with that person.

When dealing with someone you know as trustworthy, you don’t have to be restless or unsettled.

Blessed is the person who has several of such people in his/her life!

But even much more, our God can be entrusted with our hopes because His promises are completely trustworthy.

All of God’s promises are true and trustworthy.

They are ‘Yes’ and ‘Amen.’ Hallelujah!

The Bible says; “Sovereign LORD, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy, and You have promised these good things to Your servant (2 Samuel 7:28).

The Bible also says that God’s Word is “trustworthy and true” (Rev. 21:5, 22:6).

God’s Word is as good as a promissory note; His promises are as reliable as a post-dated cheque or a Government security.

Today, I challenge you to rest assured and to set your mind at rest because the God you worship is trustworthy. Amen.

Prayer:

Sovereign LORD, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy. May I never doubt you for You’ve proved over and over again that You’re faithful. Today, I chose to rest assured because Your Word is trustworthy. Amen!
