Acknowledge

“Acknowledge that the LORD is God. He made us, and we belong to Him…” – Psalm 100:3, Good News Bible

Gradually, I am coming to a point where I can say with all confidence that I do acknowledge God’s sovereignty over all circumstances!

I have come to acknowledge that the Lord alone is God!

Like the old song by the Echoes of Grace Choir says; “I will never doubt you Lord!”

A person who says such a thing has passed mere ‘knowing’ (being aware of or having information about God)

and reached the stage of ‘acknowledging’ (recognizing or admitting the existence, truth, or reality of God’s sovereignty).

Don’t you really love the word ‘acknowledge’?

The Greek word for ‘to acknowledge’ is ‘epiginosko,’ which means “to know thoroughly” or “to recognize a thing to be what it really is.”

The noun is epignosis – “full or thorough knowledge.” It has the same root with the word for ‘acquaintance.’

Job’s friend, Eliphaz, admonished his suffering friend; “Now acquaint yourself with Him, and be at peace; Thereby good will come to you. Receive, please, instruction from His mouth, and lay up His words in your heart” (Job 22:21-22).

To ‘acquaint oneself with God’ generally means to develop a deeper understanding and relationship with His Son Jesus Christ.

Psalm 46:10 says; “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Through all the experiences that we go through in life, God’s will is that we “might know that the LORD He is God; there is none else beside Him” (Deuteronomy 4:35, 39).

Our meditation today says; “Acknowledge that the LORD is God. He made us, and we belong to Him.”

That implies that there is a direct connection between knowing God and knowing ourselves.

Only by acknowledging God can we know who were really are.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says; “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”

This is an admonition for us to observe His ways and get to know Him deeply at a personal level. In doing so, we will find out time and time again that God smoothens out paths.

As we get to acknowledge Christ more and more, we will increasingly reach a stage where we “shall do great exploits” (Daniel 11:32).
