Today, we learn that without Jesus’ moment of prayer, His baptism would have looked like any other. But because He was praying, He received an ‘open heaven’ experience that unleashed Him into His long-awaited ministry.

Jesus’ holistic development in wisdom, stature, and favor with God and man serves as a model for our growth if we strive for balance in intellectual, physical, spiritual, and social capital.

God has placed our parents as His first line of shepherding in our lives and when we honor them, even when it’s difficult, we’re not just obeying them but also following Jesus, who “learned obedience through what He suffered” and who perfectly modeled what it means to walk in humility.

From His youth, our Lord Jesus sought wisdom and understanding, providing an example to us that we too should prioritize learning and growth through active listening asking questions and seeking deeper understanding.

Today, we’re reminded even the Son of God, in His humanity, did not bypass the process of growth. He didn’t arrive “fully downloaded.” He moved through stages of development—physically, mentally, and spiritually. If the Master had a growth mandate, how much more do we?

Today, God wants to challenge us to the timeless truth that when an elder who has survived the storms of life speaks a blessing over you, they are offering you more than kind words; they are offering you a spiritual anchor.

In an age when many have settled into ritual without reality, God challenges us to be like Simeon who clung to promise without proof, who believed God would keep His word, even when generations had passed without a whisper from heaven.
