Proclaim
“And so His Name will be proclaimed in Zion, and He will be praised in Jerusalem.” – Psalm 102:21, Good News Translation
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the Name of the LORD be praised.”
Those were the words of Job when he was told that all his possessions and children were gone in a flash.
Oh, come on now Brother Job! You say; “May the Name of the Lord be praised” when you’ve lost virtually everything you’ve worked for all your life?
This also reminds me of Moses.
In Deuteronomy 31:2, he said to the people; “I am 120 years old today; I am no longer able to come in and go out as your spiritual and military leader, and the LORD has said to me, ‘You shall not cross this Jordan [to enter into the Promised Land].’
Then in the next chapter as he bid farewell to the people, Moses said; “I will proclaim the Name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God!” (Deuteronomy 32:3).
Frankly, I don’t know what my own response would be.
All his life, Moses had lost everything and risked his life to lead the people of God from captivity in Egypt to the Promised Land – “a land flowing with milk and honey.”
Then in one brief moment of madness after 120 years of work, he messes up and disobeys God’s command. His punishment would be missing out on entering the Promised Land.
Of course, the people are sad with disappointment and regret. Not Moses.
He accepts God’s decision and takes it with a positive, faith-filled outlook.
“I will proclaim the Name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God!”
Moses’ statement directly echoes our meditation today, which says; “His Name will be proclaimed in Zion, and He will be praised in Jerusalem.”
Never shy away from nor get tired of acknowledging Jesus Christ’s power and sovereignty in all the universe!
To proclaim the Name of the Lord is to publicly declare and honor God’s character, attributes, and sovereignty over everything and everyone.
“From the rising of the sun to the going down of the same, the Name of the Lord shall be praised,” says Psalm 113:3.
That implies that regardless of the weather and how you might be feeling, you should proclaim and praise the Name of the Lord at all times.
Our role is not to understand what is going on but to preach and proclaim the Name of Jesus. Hallelujah!
We must share our testimonies of faith and how God has impacted and intervened in our lives.
We must continually offer the sacrifice of praise to His Name in adoration through music.
We must demonstrate our Christian values and principles through the way we live and conduct ourselves in our different spheres of influence.
Malachi 1:11 says; “For My Name will be great among the nations.”
Isaiah 12:4 says; “Give praise to the LORD; proclaim His Name! Make His works known among the peoples; declare that His name is exalted.”
Philippians 2:10-11 says; “At the Name of Jesus every knee shall bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
For as long as you live, never tire of proclaiming the Name of the Lord as Jehovah God, “compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.”
Neither should you ever shy away from nor get tired of acknowledging Jesus Christ’s power and sovereignty in all the universe! Amen.
