But!
“But You, O LORD, are enthroned forever [ruling eternally as sovereign]; And [the fame and glory of] Your name [endures] to all generations.” – Psalm 102:12, AMP
In Grammar, the word ‘but’ is called a conjunction whose role is to link ideas and show the relationship between them.
In our meditation today, the word ‘but’ serves the purpose of linking the first part of the psalm (verses 1 – 11) to the second part (verses 13 – 28).
As we noted in the previous post, part 1 of the psalm is about the affliction the writer was going through.
He feels abandoned, heart-broken, withered and famished.
Then suddenly, psalmist decides to change his focus from himself and his dire circumstances to God!
“But You, O LORD, are enthroned forever [ruling eternally as sovereign],” he declares.
Whatever the situation; whatever the circumstances; however dire it could look, there is always a ‘but!
Let me give you some more powerful ‘But God’ verses from the Bible:
“You thought evil against me; but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” – Genesis 50:20.
“But the Lord said, ‘I have seen the affliction of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings.” – Exodus 3:7
“But God is faithful; He will not abandon His people or forsake His inheritance.” – Deuteronomy 32:4
“But the Lord said to Jehoshaphat, ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.’” – 2 Chronicles 20:15

“But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth.” – 2 Timothy 4:17
Whatever could possibly be going wrong – afflictions in ministry, failing health, financial or business challenges, issues at work or relationships, etc – there’s always a ‘But God’ message from the Father!
‘But God’ is a powerful refrain that highlights God’s faithfulness, mercy, and sovereignty in the face of our human suffering and limitations!
Receive that encouragement today in the Name of Jesus! Amen
