Coming
“For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness, And the peoples with His truth.” – Psalm 96:13, NKJV
On several occasions, I’ve been the one that people were waiting for.
Other times, I’ve been part of those anxiously waiting for someone to show up.
I guess we’ve all been in both situations.
Of course, I prefer the former – to be the one that people are waiting for.
Over the past few weeks, the Holy Spirit led me to pick our meditations from Book IV of the Psalms (Psalms 90–106).
The 150 Psalms are divided into five books, clearly marked Book 1- Book V.
Book I (Psalms 1–41); Book II (Psalms 42–72); Book III (Psalms 73–89); Book IV (Psalms 90–106), and Book V (Psalms 107–150).
The division into five books was intended not only to serve a liturgical purpose but also to reflect the historical evolution of the nation of Israel.
Book IV, which focuses on God’s reign over all creation and His eternal kingship, addresses communal and historical concerns in relation to the nation of Israel.
The psalms in Book IV were often sung when the nation was in trouble and facing an uncertain future.
This is because Book IV emphasizes the kingship of God, His control over the universe and His ultimate authority over all the world’s powers, thrones and dominions.
So, whenever the nation was in peril, the people would look forward with anticipation to the time when their sovereign King would show up to deliver them.
“For He is coming,” says today’s meditation verse.
For those of you who might be in the midst of a long season of anxious waiting, He’s coming!
For the people in captivity and oppression, your King is coming, says the Spirit!
“Say to those who have an anxious heart, ‘Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you” (Psalm 35:4).
However long it might have taken, the Lord of Glory; the Lord of Lords is coming!
Maybe your wait has been long and exasperating.
Don’t give up yet, for He is coming!
John 11 carries an amazing story of a family that waited until it was ‘too late’ or so they thought.
After sending an urgent message to Jesus to tell Him that Lazarus was terribly ill, Martha and Mary waited for days but the Master was nowhere to be seen.
Verse 20 says; “Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met Him but Mary sat still in the house.”
Like Martha did, arise from your place of anguish and go out to meet the Lord who is coming to you.
Don’t be like Mary whose heart had sunk so low into disappointment.
Then after hearing the powerful and re-assuring words of Jesus, Martha ran to the house to call her sister: “The Master has come, and is calling you!”
The Father’s message to you is that He’s coming and when He does come; when He eventually shows up, He will turn mourning into dancing, put off your sackcloth and gird you with gladness! That’s what He did in Lazarus’ house!
However long it might have taken, the Lord of Glory; the Lord of Lords is coming!
Say a firm Amen!
