“Your testimonies are very sure; Holiness adorns Your house, O LORD, forever.” – Psalm 93:5
Given that my career is in the ‘Arts’ rather than the Sciences,’ many people usually get surprised when I tell them that I studied Physics at ‘A’ Level.
In the Physics class, I came to appreciate how fundamental the subject is to humanity, so much that I think everyone should get an opportunity to study it to the highest level possible.
In brief, the entire universe and indeed our world today run on the unalterable and irreversible laws and principles of physics, and the natural sciences as a whole.
Of course there are several branches of physics including; thermodynamics – the natural laws that govern the transfer and behavior of energy; aerodynamics – the natural laws that govern the interaction of gases with objects in motion; electromagnetism – the natural laws that govern interactions between electrically charged particles; optics – the natural laws that govern the behavior of light; cosmology – the laws that govern the behavior of celestial objects and galaxies, among others.
The laws that govern physics – indeed the entire physical realm – were instituted by God, though they were gradually discovered by scientists such as Galileo, Sir Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Coloumb, Marie Curie, etc.
Take for instance, the law of gravity; should you attempt to jump from a tall building, you will always come down, regardless of your gender, race, religion or education level.
Now, please don’t try this at home!
But apart from the physical realm, even the spiritual realm is governed by unchangeable and invariable laws and principles.
A few years ago, I read Pat Robbertson’s best-seller titled, The Secret Kingdom, which outlines about a dozen principles of the kingdom of God and some advice on how to apply them and align our lives with them.
It’s a book that I strongly recommend that every Christian should read.
Our meditation verse today; ‘Your testimonies are very sure,’ is the conclusion of the psalmist’s discussion about the eternal rule of God and the eternity of His throne.
Another Bible version says; “Your royal laws cannot be changed,” while another says; “Your laws are eternal.”
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” – Matthew 24:35
That God’s laws are unchangeable and eternal means that they are fixed and immutable, reflecting His nature, will, and moral order.
They transcend human understanding and authority; they are absolute and not subject to alteration or modification by human beings.
God’s divine truths, testaments, precepts and promises are not subjective or relative; rather, they are objective and eternal, not subject to cultural, personal or temporal variations.
In the same way that we cannot negate the natural laws of physics and get away with it, we cannot ignore the spiritual laws and not suffer the consequences.
So, in order to enjoy the best of the spiritual realm, all that we have to do is to seek alignment with His Kingdom’s principles, divine will and purposes.
The laws and principles of God’s kingdom transcend the natural laws or the laws of the kingdoms of this world, however steadfast they mighty appear.
As our Lord Jesus said; “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away” (Matthew 24:35).
May the acknowledgement of God’s eternal laws and principles be a source of strength and assurance that God has a plan and purpose for our lives, and offer the guidance we need as we seek alignment to His wisdom and intentions for our lives.
Amen!
My pick for today’s devotion: “God’s Divine truths, testaments, precepts and promises are not subjective or relative; rather, they are objective and eternal, not subject to cultural, personal or temporal variations.”
