Wealthy

“But you shall   remember the LORD your God: for it is He who gives you power to get wealth,  that He may establish His covenant, which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day..: – Deuteronomy 8:18, NKJV

Isn’t it interesting that ‘hon,’ the Hebrew word for ‘wealth’ is the same word for ‘enough’ or ‘sufficiency’?

I don’t know what you think of wealth, but I believe that it’s God’s perfect will for His children to have sufficiency and abundance in all things (2 Cor.9:8).

Some people often confuse ‘wealth’ with ‘riches.’ The Bible indicates that the two are different.

Psalms 112:3 says; “Wealth and riches are in their houses, and their righteousness endures forever.”

That means that it is possible to have riches without wealth, and the reverse is also true.

There are people who have massive riches yet they are so poor that they can’t even give a glass of water to an orphan.

However, those who enjoy Christ’s righteousness may have both wealth and riches “in their houses.”

Our meditation today comes from a passage in which Moses was making an address to the children of Israel.

Mark you; they were still right in the middle of the desert – homeless, shabby, poor and hungry.

Mark the tense; He gives you (even here in the desert) not ‘He will give you.’

The point that Moses was making here is simple: The people of God were not going to be poor, needy and hungry forever!

They would eventually reach the Promised Land – the land of plenty.

But they were already wealthy and it was not their own strength or wisdom that made them wealthy; “it’s the Lord your God who gives you the power to get wealth.”

The NIV says; “it is [your God] who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms His covenant.”

What that means is that God can give anyone power; okay, everyone who has Christ carries ability and power to make wealth, because it is part of the Covenant He made with Abraham.

PSALM 112:3

Anyone, even nonbelievers, may be rich but the power and ability to make true wealth is given from above – it’s divine; it’s an inspiration; it’s a revelation – and anyone can receive it by grace regardless of background, current situation, or social status.

If you love Jesus, you’re already wealthy; you have latent wealth; it’s the physical manifestation of that wealth that is not yet evident.

When the Israelites finally reached to the Promised Land, the manner in which the wealth was divided shows that there are four ways to manifest wealth.

Firstly, some of the land was given to certain tribes by Moses long before they reached Canaan (see Joshua 13).

It was simply by favour; they had almost nothing to do about it.

Secondly, some of the land was distributed by Joshua simply by casting lots (See Joshua 14:2-4).

In other words, some of the tribes got their wealth by pure chance; wealth simply hit them.

Thirdly, Caleb got his inheritance by making a deliberate claim on it.

Caleb was intentional about the fulfillment of God’s Word in his life; he didn’t want to depend on mere luck or chance.

“Now give me this hill country which the LORD promised me that day,” demanded Caleb (See Joshua 14:6-14).

Inevitably, Caleb got the most fertile land (Hebron) though he had to fight off giants in order to take full possession of it.

Lastly, the Levites (the servants of God) did not get any land because “God is their inheritance” and “the offerings presented to the LORD are their inheritance” (Joshua 13:14, 32).

Though the priests and Levites got no land, still they would not be needy; they also partook of the wealth.

So whichever of thoset categories you may belong to, the message is clear – it is God’s perfect will for His people to have more than enough and you already carry that divine power.

Prayer:

Almighty God, thank you because inside me resides the divine power and ability to make wealth. Help me to manifest Your divine wealth and riches for the glory of Your Name and for the building of Your Kingdom on earth. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

  1. Thanks.
    Prov. 30:7-9 here is topical.
7 “Two things I ask of you, LORD; do not refuse me before I die: 8 Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. 9 Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the LORD?
