Blessed

“And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the LORD has blessed.” – Isaiah 61:9

Many people, sadly including Christians, tend to look at the ‘blessing’ only in terms of material possessions.

For some, being “blessed” by God is all about being able to drive the latest car models; never mind that there are billionaires who hate Jesus.

To make matters even worse, a lot of people have been taught to believe that if you’re not ‘prospering’ in accordance with the worldly understanding of the term, then you probably need to go for ‘deliverance’ from ‘generational curses.’

That’s why ‘deliverance from curses’ has become a lucrative industry for extortionist church leaders.

The words in our meditation today were spoken to people who were in captivity in Babylon – hundreds of miles away from  their homeland that had been turned into ruins.

God was like, yes, you guys are captives in a foreign land far away from your homeland but a time is coming when everyone who sees your children and grand-children shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed that Jehovah God has blessed.

What this is describing is the concept of the cross-generational blessing.

If you have Christ in your life, that divine blessing rests upon you, why, because of what God spoke to Abraham and to his seed (Christ).

This can be best illustrated by Joseph, the son of Jacob and great grandson of Abraham, who was sold into slavery by his brothers. Of course all Joseph’s ancestors carried an immense divine blessing.

In Genesis 39, Joseph is shown working as a houseboy in his master’s house. The third verse says his master saw that the LORD was with this young man, and “that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.”

Verses 5 – 7 add; “And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian ….and the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.”

Joseph prospered while working as a houseboy in a foreign land and his gentile master did acknowledge it.

God blessed him within the area code he found himself regardless of his circumstances; he didn’t have to live in a certain country.

Additionally, the LORD blessed Joseph’s heathen boss “for Joseph’s sake”; meaning that the blessing of the Lord flowed from Joseph to his Egyptian master’s household and all his agricultural projects!

That’s the power of the blessing; it’s tangible; it can locate you regardless of your address and state, and it is capable of being acknowledged by the people – both believers and unbelievers.

It is interesting to note that berakah, the Hebrew word, and eulogia, the Greek word for ‘blessing,’ denote the words that are spoken upon someone or something.

God delights in blessing His people. That’s why the first words that Adam and Eve heard from the mouth of God was a blessing (Genesis 1:28).

The gist of your blessedness is what God has spoken about you, and the Bible says the blessing of the Lord brings righteousness (Ps. 24:5), life (Ps. 133:3), prosperity (2 Sam.7:29), and salvation (Ps. 3:8).

If you have Christ in your life, that divine blessing rests upon you, why, because of what God said to Abraham and his seed (Christ).

Prayer:

Almighty God, thank you because the blessing rests upon my life, regardless of where I might be. I declare that I am blessed beyond measure. May the blessing always flow to all and be recognizable in all my circles of influence. For the glory of your Name, amen!
